Forget conventional pop-up stores
Moby Mart, an autonomous, staffless mobile store is currently touring Shanghai in demo mode. It is the store that you can find wherever and whenever you need it. The store offers products for immediate consumption, such as grocery essentials, lunch, medicine and goods pre-ordered online. It can drive to areas where it is in-demand and turn every parking space into a mobile store. The self-driving Moby Mart runs on solar power, can use every parking space, is open 24 hours, offers drone delivery and uses a hologram as a sales assistant. Even the restocking of supplies works automatically.
You are welcomed and supported by an hologram AI, which keeps a note of your shopping habits and also makes recipe recommendations. Later the data will be used to track behaviour and to tailor products to specific areas. Of course you can pay cashless with your mobile and to top it all there are no waiting lines. This latest development of autonomous vehicles has been developed by the Swedish company Wheelys Inc in cooperation with Hefei University and Himalafy, a company providing technology for unstaffed retail solutions. It is currently undergoing beta testing but Wheelys hopes to sell the first units in 2018 at around 100,000 US Dollars.
